Attendance
Parents and staff have a shared vision for all students to do well at Park Brook Elementary. There are students who struggle with academics because they continually miss school, or repeatedly miss the same subject because they are late for school.
In some grades, the class time begins with Number Corner before the students go to breakfast, which is a way to introduce math objectives, do a short review, and in essence prepare students for the math lesson later in the day. There are some students who miss this part of the math several times a week because they are late for school. There are some students who miss academic interventions that we have put in place, because they are late several times each week.
Students do best if they are in school AND on time to school. There is simply no way to make up for what students miss when they are repeatedly late to school.
There is a direct correlation between academic growth and attendance.
For students to be on time, please be sure there are routines in the evening so that your child is ready for bed so that they can get 9 – 11 hours of sleep.
Technology: Keep cell phones, televisions and other technology out of the room where kids are sleeping. This is a huge factor in why students are not getting the sleep that they need; they use technology AFTER they are in their bedrooms. It is best to remove the temptation.
Supervision in front of the school: 8:30 a.m.
