Birthday treats at Park Brook Elementary
Birthdays are special days. Students will be recognized on their birthday, unless a parent/guardian requests that their child not be recognized. Towards the end of the year, students with summer birthdays are recognized.
Students do not bring birthday treats to school on their birthday. There are several reasons, and the Focus on Fitness initiative is NOT the reason for this decision.
One reason is coordinating a time to enjoy the treat when parents/guardians arrive with cupcakes for everyone. There are times that it works, but there were a number of times that the entire class was not in the classroom, or a special science experiment is taking place, and therefore treats are quickly distributed when time allows, which did not feel meaningful.
Therefore, the staff decided that we must recognize birthdays, and birthday treats were not the most meaningful way to recognize a student’s birthday.
We appreciate the understanding of this no birthday treats procedure at Park Brook.
