Focus on Fitness

Park Brook Elementary is a school with a Focus on Fitness Initiative to increase academic growth and positive behaviors.  This initiative is based upon research from Dr. John Ratey as well as other studies.

All students participate in Brain Boosts throughout the school day to get students up and active during instruction.  In addition, kinesthetic seating is the standard at Park Brook and with the Building a Better Future upgrades, Park Brook will maintain kinesthetic seating in classrooms. (Classrooms that serve multiple grades throughout the day do not use kinesthetic seating as kinesthetic seating needs to be the appropriate size for students.)

Students in grades 3 – 5 set individual goals for fitness.

Fitness scores are reported to parents with report cards. Special education IEP’s and evaluations at Park Brook include fitness scores.

The purpose of increasing fitness scores is not to create athletes, although some students may choose to be involved in athletics, but rather to increase academic growth and positive behaviors.

After school activities are available for students to participate in, such as Boot Camp, Girls on the Run, Double Dutch, and Cardio Drumming.

Weekend field trips are offered throughout the school year, such as Twin Cities 5K, Reslinator, Kidarod, Luminary Loppet and more.
