Focus on Fitness Weekend/Evening Events

Throughout the year Park Brook offers a number of events outside of the school day to increase fitness, to build community, and simply to have fun!

Parents/guardians are welcome but not required to come to any of these events.  (For the Winter Funland, we do require Pre-K students to have a parent attend with them.)

A $5 commitment fee is required for the Next Gen Ski Race, Luminary Loppet, Kidarod and Boys Climb.  The fee is returned to all who participate and those who let us know in advance (date on registration form) that they are not able to attend.  The commitment fee has greatly assisted with accurate numbers which reduces costs for things such as bussing. Prior to the commitment fee a number of students registered and did not show up which resulted in increased costs that did not benefit students.

Times can be found on the Park Brook Website.  Students will ride a bus from Park Brook, except the Winter Funland, and parents are welcome to ride the bus as well.

Next Gen Ski Race Sponsored by The Loppet Foundation

Students in Grades 3 – 5 – Saturday, January 31.

Students in grades 3 – 5 learn how to cross-country ski during physical education classes during the school day.  This ‘race’ is held in Wirth Park.  It is a race, but not timed, simply for fun.

Luminary Loppet & Choir Concert Sponsored by The Loppet Foundation

Students in Grades 3 – 5 – Saturday, February 7.

The Park Brook Choir will sing, and then all students will wander through the Luminary Loppet on Lake of the Isles in Minneapolis in small groups with staff members.

The Luminar Loppet is a spectacular event with thousands of luminaries made out of ice, fire dancers, large puppets, hot chocolate, and more.

Park Brook Winter Funland Sponsored by the Park Brook PTO

All Park Brook Students - Friday, February 20.  (There is a small cost to attend this event.)

Park Brook Winter Funland is a health fair.  The event consists of movement activities/games throughout the school.  Students can wander from activity to activity.

Food is provided and included in the cost of admission.

Pre-k students must have a parent/guardian or older sibling attend with them.  Kindergarten – 5th grade students do not need a parent/guardian to attend with them.

We kindly request that families check their children in so we have accurate phone numbers.

Students must be picked up at the end.  Students are not permitted to walk home as it will be dark when the event is over.

Kidarod Sponsored by the YMCA of the North

Students in Grades 1 – 5 – Saturday, February 21.

This is an outdoor obstacle course held at Fish Lake in Maple Grove.  Students must be dressed to have fun outside.

Boys Climb

Boys in Grades 4 & 5 – Friday, February 27.

This event is limited to 30 boys.  Boys in grades 4 and 5 will register first, if there is still space the event will be opened to boys in 3rd grade, and then boys in 2nd grade.

A request from parents has been to have events for just boys as we have Girls on the Run for girls.  Based upon parent requests, we have added an event for boys.

Boys registered will stay after school, have dinner, and then ride a bus to Minneapolis Bouldering Project.

Students are not permitted to walk home, even with parent/guardian request, for any event that ends after it is dark outside.  Once all students have left, staff leave, and there is no place for students to return to should they not be able to get into their homes.
